Specialist Supplements Ltd is a manufacturer and wholesale supplier of quality, UK-made protein powders.
In the industry for over two decades, we make it our mission to supply our customers with premium quality protein, free from added nasties such as hexane and other toxic chemicals, GMOs, artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners or added sugar.
The retail market for quality protein powders
As experienced wholesale suppliers of a comprehensive range of wholesale protein blends (including rice protein, hemp protein, pea protein, organic superfoods protein, soya protein, whey protein and more), we make it our business to reflect consumer trends and latest nutritional discoveries and innovations.
We also aim to differentiate our protein powders (and thereby give resellers a competitive edge) by focussing on synergistic blends of ingredients, rather than the standard single ingredient products you tend to find on the high-street and its saturated market.
Supplementing the diet with quality protein on a daily basis, in a way that is quick and easy, has become fashionable as a healthy living trend across the world and continues to represent a booming industry as a result, with no signs of abating
By offering our trade customers a market-ready range of premium quality, specialist protein powders, you can start selling immediately (under your own branding, or ours) and enter one of the fastest growing markets in the supplement world.
Why consumers are looking to buy protein supplements
When it comes to building muscle mass, preserving muscle, supporting recovery and improving stamina, protein is the one of the most important nutrients in the diet. Regular consumption of protein, particularly in the ‘anabolic window’ that immediately follows exercise, contributes to the significant growth and repair of muscle fibres.
What's more, one of the main reasons that protein has such lucrative market potential is the fact that it is not gender-specific. Long gone are the days when protein supplements were only considered by bodybuilders. Nowadays, nutritious protein powders are being sought out by men and women of all ages, body types and fitness levels - particularly in a weight loss context.
It is interesting to note that over 49% of people in the UK take a food supplement capsule or drink every day.
Backed by science
With so many sub-standard products on the market, and a consumer market that is increasingly educated about their health, it is essential that you are able to show customers that the products are effective and top quality.
We formulate our products in-house, with the quality and efficacy of ingredients at the forefront of our minds. In particular, we tailor our formulations to carry EFSA approved health claims wherever possible, to show end-users that these products (and their ingredients) are backed by science.
For example, protein carries the following EFSA-approved health claims:
- Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.
- Protein contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.
Speciality wholesale protein powders
As our company name implies, we focus on formulating and supplying wholesale protein that is "specialist" in some way. For example:
Vegan proteins: With veganism now well-rooted in the UK (up by 360% over the past decade) and around the world, consumers are actively seeking quality plant-based protein sources. The most common of these is soy protein, as it most closely resembles the amino acid profile of milk-based proteins. Soy protein is considered a complete protein, because it provides all of the essential amino acids. Other plant-based protein powders include pea, rice, hemp and quinoa – all of which have their own unique flavour, texture and amino acid profile - ideal to suit all tastes and health goals. While providing a vegan-friendly option, most plant proteins from single sources are typically incomplete proteins. However, some of these plants can be blended together to ensure that the finished product is classed as ‘complete’ - something we have aimed to do with our wholesale protein range.
Milk proteins: While we tend to avoid single ingredient products for the reasons outlined above, whey protein is one of the most popular, most effective and most widely used protein supplements. A natural by-product of the cheese-making process, whey protein is the liquid that is left behind once the milk has been curdled and strained. This liquid is then microfiltered and dried to form a powder, which is commonly known as whey protein concentrate (WPC). WPC is the most common type of whey protein on the market. However, it is whey protein isolate (WPI) that represents the highest quality and purity. This is because WPI has been filtered even further than WPC to remove more of the fats and lactose, resulting in an even higher protein content. This is why we provide a combination of both concentrate and isolate in our wholesale whey protein powders.
Other speciality proteins: In addition to the plant-based and milk protein options mentioned above, the modern health-conscious consumer is looking for a variety of characteristics in their protein supplements. For example, "free from" options, kosher, organic etc. We have products in our comprehensive wholesale protein powders range to suit all these requirements, thereby attracting the broadest possible customer base. The organic products in our range are Soil Association certified.
